I am always truly honoured to be asked to capture a newborn in their first few days after birth. There is something so special about spending time with a new baby and their parents and capturing the tiny details of their precious new bundle. I love every second of a newborn photoshoot, no matter how hard they make me work to get the images that we want. There is something so calming about the studio that I like....dim lighting, the fan of the heater....a million miles from the chaos that you imagine from a new baby's arrival and definitely a contrast to having energetic toddlers in.
Evan came to the studio for his newborn shoot at only 5 days old. He was an absolute dream to photograph. The shoot started with him being a little restless but after a feed he settled into a lovely sleep and allowed us to pose him in baskets and on the beanbag. Evan decided to wake up for the final 30mins of the photoshoot. This meant that we didn't get our second blanket colour shots, but allowed us to get adorable shots with his proud big brother, Blair.
I have had so many baby girls in the studio recently and it was lovely to get to photograph a baby boy again. I decided that I had to have a few more 'boy' props for the shoot (any excuse to buy new props). I actually think I might have a prop addiction, but we'll not go into that at the moment lol. I bought a really cute little bear hat (to go with the wicker basket I bought for my newborn shoot the week before) and bought new little blue and grey knitted bonnets which arrived in the post only two hours before the shoot. This made my day as I was quite deflated when I thought they weren't going to arrive on time - I had picked out my props and blanket colours around my new purchases!
Here is a small selection of the gallery images that were sent to Evan's parents this week. I can't decide on my favourite image. I'm torn between the smiley bear hat in the basket, the grey bonnet shot, and the blue bonnet close up that makes me want to squish his cheeks lol. I hope you like the images - enjoy!
